Metal Gear Solid Delta Passes Impressive Sales Milestone

Metal Gear Solid Delta one million copies sold

Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater sold over one million copies on launch day. Despite the absence of Hideo Kojima, the remake has proven to be a strong success.

Originally revealed in 2023, the game stayed mostly under wraps until marketing ramped up in late 2024. After months of teasers, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater officially launched on August 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Day-One Sales Success

A tweet from Konami UK on September 5 confirmed the milestone. The game sold over one million copies the very same day it was released. On PC, the numbers looked modest in comparison, with a peak of 19,634 concurrent players on Steam. That was far below the 91,000 peak players of Metal Gear Solid 5 at launch. However, console sales clearly carried the remake, despite reports of performance issues on PS5 Pro.

Critical Reception and Reviews

Early reviews suggest the remake is living up to expectations. Metal Gear Solid Delta earned an 86 on Metacritic within hours of launch. While the original Snake Eater scored a slightly higher 91, the new release still managed to impress both critics and fans. Many were relieved to see the franchise thrive even without its original creator at the helm.

Looking Ahead

The strong sales confirm that Metal Gear Solid Delta is finding its audience in the modern gaming landscape. Konami may face some backlash over the Collector’s Edition and performance complaints, but overall, the game’s success is undeniable. Passing the one million sales milestone on day one proves the enduring popularity of the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
