Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Brings Back Safeguard in Season 2
Black Ops 7 Season 2 Confirms the Return of Safeguard
Treyarch Studios has officially confirmed that Black Ops 7 Safeguard will return with Season 2. The long-absent multiplayer mode makes its comeback on February 5, alongside the next major update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone.
Safeguard last appeared in Black Ops 4 back in 2018. Its return marks the first time players can experience the mode again in nearly eight years.
Season 2 Continues Black Ops 7’s Nostalgia Push
Season 1 leaned heavily into Black Ops history, bringing back classic maps like Standoff, Meltdown, and Nuketown. Treyarch paired nostalgia with fresh content, including new weapons, modes, Operators, and Zombies updates.
Season 2 looks set to follow the same approach. The return of Black Ops 7 Safeguard reinforces Treyarch’s focus on fan-favourite modes from earlier entries.
What Is Safeguard in Black Ops 7?
Safeguard is a round-based multiplayer mode built around attack and defence. One team escorts a non-combat robot across the map. The opposing team must stop the robot by disabling it with gunfire. If attackers keep the robot moving, they push closer to victory. If defenders shut it down, they gain control of the match flow. For Black Ops 7, the escorted unit will likely be the D.A.W.G. robot, based on Treyarch’s teaser emblem.
Treyarch Has Not Used Safeguard Since 2018
Safeguard debuted in Black Ops 3 and returned in Black Ops 4. Treyarch then dropped the mode entirely. Black Ops Cold War and Black Ops 6 both skipped Safeguard. Its absence left fans wondering why the mode disappeared, especially given its competitive structure and team-focused gameplay. Season 2 finally ends that long wait.
Black Ops 7 Starts 2026 Strong
Despite a rocky launch, Black Ops 7 has gained momentum in early 2026. The game now ranks among the most-played titles on PlayStation and Xbox. While Battlefield 6 dominated 2025 sales, it has struggled to retain console players. Black Ops 7, meanwhile, continues to perform strongly across platforms.
Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 Set Up a Season 2 Clash
The rivalry between Call of Duty and Battlefield will heat up again in February.
Black Ops 7 Season 2 launches on February 5. Battlefield 6 Season 2 follows on February 17, less than two weeks later. Both updates aim to re-energize their player bases with new content.
Safeguard’s return could give Black Ops 7 an early edge.
Black Ops 7 Safeguard Could Be a Big Win for Multiplayer
Safeguard rewards teamwork, map control, and objective play. Its return adds variety to Black Ops 7’s multiplayer lineup and gives veteran players a familiar challenge.
If Treyarch modernizes the mode without losing its core identity, Black Ops 7 Safeguard could become one of Season 2’s highlights.
