Warner Bros Discovery may have quietly hinted at the Hogwarts Legacy 2 release window. A recent earnings call suggests the sequel could arrive in 2027 or 2028. The original Hogwarts Legacy launched in February 2023. It quickly became one of the company’s most successful games ever. Because of that success, a sequel was always expected. Now, new comments from a senior executive strongly point toward the next entry.
WB Games May Be Planning Its Next Big Franchise Return
During the company’s latest earnings call, President of Global Streaming and Games JB Perrette spoke about future projects. He described 2025 as a “reset year” for the gaming division. He also mentioned that major franchise releases will begin again in 2027 and 2028. This statement immediately sparked discussion about the Hogwarts Legacy 2 release window. The sequel fits that timeline perfectly. Reports already suggested development began around mid-2024. Large open-world RPGs normally require three to five years of development. That makes a late-2027 or 2028 launch realistic.
The Harry Potter TV Series Could Be Connected
Another important detail supports this theory. Warner Bros wants to coordinate its major Harry Potter projects across different media. HBO is currently preparing a live-action Harry Potter television series. Executives previously targeted an early 2027 premiere. Launching the game close to the show would be a strong marketing strategy. The company could build hype across both gaming and television audiences. Because of this, the Hogwarts Legacy 2 release window may intentionally align with the show’s release.
More WB Franchises May Also Return
The earnings call did not mention the sequel by name. However, executives spoke about returning to their “biggest franchises.” Harry Potter clearly belongs in that category. Other major IPs include DC Comics and Mortal Kombat. There are also rumors about a new Batman project.
