Xbox Console Exclusive Avowed Is Coming to PS5 With a Major Update

Avowed PS5 Release Is Official

PlayStation 5 players will soon experience Avowed for the first time. Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed the action RPG will launch on PS5 on February 17.

The PS5 release arrives alongside a major anniversary update. This update will also be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Avowed Started as an Xbox Console Exclusive

Obsidian originally released Avowed on February 18, 2025. The game launched on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed takes a different approach. It replaces isometric party combat with first-person action, magic, and exploration.

Critics and players responded positively. The game currently holds an OpenCritic score of 80. Strong sales also encouraged Obsidian to consider future expansions or sequels.

Avowed PS5 Launch Coincides With Anniversary Update

The announcement appeared during the New Game+ Showcase on January 8. Avowed will arrive on PS5 just one day before its one-year anniversary.

Since Obsidian Entertainment became part of Xbox Game Studios in 2018, Avowed released under the Xbox banner. Its move to PS5 reflects Microsoft’s recent shift toward multi-platform releases.

New Game Plus Finally Arrives

The anniversary update introduces New Game Plus across all platforms. Players can restart the game at level one while keeping their gear and abilities.

The update also adds tougher enemy variants. Players can customize enemy resistances, increasing replay value and challenge.

New Playable Races Expand Character Creation

Avowed’s character creation receives a major expansion. At launch, players could only choose between human and elf.

The update adds three new playable races:

• Orlan, a small, animal-like humanoid

• Aumaua, a powerful semi-aquatic race

• Dwarf, a classic high-fantasy option

These additions respond directly to player feedback.

New Weapon Type Added

The update also introduces quarterstaffs as a new weapon category. Obsidian confirmed the addition came from strong community demand.

This change further expands combat variety as Avowed enters its second year.

Avowed PS5 Preorders Are Live

Preorders for Avowed PS5 are now available:

• Standard Edition: $49.99

• Premium Edition: $59.99

The Premium Edition includes two armor sets, eight companion skins, a digital artbook, and the soundtrack.

Obsidian Has More Projects in Development

Reports suggest Obsidian is currently developing multiple new games. It remains unclear if Avowed or Pillars of Eternity will receive a sequel next. For now, PS5 players finally get their chance to step into Avowed’s fantasy world.
